RUOK

About 3 weeks ago a friend came round and announced that NZ TV was turning digital at the end of July! “Whoa there horsey” we thought, as our TV is one of those big old girls that weighs so much I’m convinced there is about 4 bricks stuffed inside it, and frankly, we are not ready to swap her for a sleeker, slimmer and younger model quite yet.  But…it did get me thinking; “Do I really need a TV? I know I watch too much so, if we didn’t buy a new TV and therefore couldn’t get any TV channels from the beginning of August, would I manage?”Most of you are probably screaming “it doesn’t switch to digital until 2012” and yes, smarty pants, we soon discovered our intel was wrong and that we have at least a year left until the old girl becomes useless or needs a nice black box to help her receive the digital channels. However my brain was already turning. I have been thinking for a while now that I basically turn into a zombie (without the anti-social human killing habits) once I come home from work and switch the TV on. Would I get more done without a TV? Would I read more? Would I get some of my creative projects finally started? What would my life look like with no TV?So i decided to set myself a challenge. No TV for the month of August….which obviously starts tomorrow. The rules are:1. No TV (an obvious one)2. No TV On Demand (or other NZ channels online) via the internet3. The internet in general is allowed (except for the above) and youtube is allowed. 4. DVD’s are allowedMy lovely husband is coming on this journey with me. Just three more hours of my flickering screen of loveliness. I will miss you but I’m looking forward to seeing what replaces you.Farewell reality TV, the final of survivor, my kitchen rules, NZ Next Top model, Biggest Loser etc. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!
